Yoga and Meditation Workshop this Saturday

Maldon Neighbourhood Centre is holding its third Seasonal Yoga and Meditation Workshop to celebrate Spring. Join me this Saturday the 21st of September at the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre, at the corner of Church and Edwards Streets in Maldon for a day of postures and meditation.

 

10am – Registration and morning tea

10.15 am – Housekeeping

10.30am-12.30pm – Session 1

12.30pm – Lunch

1.15pm-1.30pm – Q&A

1.30pm-3.30pm – Session 2

3.30pm-4pm – Afternoon tea

 

What to bring with you:

Water bottle, yoga mat, cushion (if desired), loose, comfortable clothing that can be added and removed for comfort. Please advise if you do not have any of the above.

 

The cost of the workshop is $50 per person ($40 conc.) and includes lunch and afternoon tea. Places are limited and bookings are essential, so please contact Maldon Neighbourhood Centre to book. Phone: 03 5475 2093 or email info@maldonnc.org.au

Positive affirmations

You can use positive affirmations as a pick-me-up during the day, or during meditation.

  • I feel great
  • I am happy and relaxed
  • I am a loving person
  • I love life
  • It’s terrific to be alive
  • I am a decent individual
  • I do what I can

Repeat any of these affirmations. Try to believe them; if you hear things often enough, you do start to believe them.

Long time no blog & how to use affirmations

Hello all!

Apologies for the lengthy delay between blog posts! My daughter who helps me manage the blog just started her master’s degree in primary teaching this year and there has been little spare time for… anything! But you can definitely look forward to more regular blog updates from now on.

Stress in daily life can be the big things or the little things. Stress can keep life interesting, and can provide us with motivation, but too much stress can have a negative impact on your body and soul. Meditation can remedy stress and allow us to stay centred and grounded. There are many ways to meditate and trying a variety will allow you to find the style that works best for you. Here is one that you can try:

1. Choose a simple word or phrase, like love, calm, peace…

2. Repeat that word to yourself, either out loud or in your head, every second or so.

3. Continue for 10 to 20 minutes.

4. Block out everyday thoughts when they pop into your mind.

It is important to treat our minds with a little time off, and meditation is the perfect way to do it.

Other techniques to try while meditating:

  • Chanting
  • Candle gazing
  • Tracing an object
  • Rolling something under your foot
  • Visualisation
  • Using music (check out YouTube for a huge variety of meditation music for free!)
  • Walking around barefoot, Zen walking
  • Having a bath
  • Touching your skin with your finger, for example around the palm of your hand.
